Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens, better than Queen Latifah America, is a rapper and actress. Queen Latifah's performance in television and music has earned her the Golden Globe award two Screen Actors Guild Awards two Image Awards a Grammy Award six additional Grammy nominations, an Emmy Award nomination and an Academy Award nomination. Queen Latifah was born and lived in Newark New Jersey the daughter of Rita an educator who worked for Irvington High School and Lancelot Owens, Jr. a police officer. Latifah's parents divorced at the age of 10 years old. Latifah was raised in the Baptist church and she attended Catholic school in Newark New Jersey. Latifah is her name for stage at the time she turned eight. The word means extremely fragile in Arabic. Latifah's height of 5'10" was enough to make her a formidable athlete at high school. The song she sang was home from The Wiz at a school play. Latifah began her career as a beatboxer with the Ladies Fresh rap band. Latifah was member of the Flavor Unit - a group of rappers who joined by the producer DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James, aka DJ Mark the45 King, recorded Queen Latifah's rap Princess of the Posse. The recording was handed over to Yo! MTV Raps which is hosted by Freddy. Dante Ross, an employee of Tommy Boy Music who heard the track and made a deal with Latifah in 1988, to drop her debut track Wrath of My Madness.
